The Sunday of Pentecost

In Sunday School today—the children will be studying about spiritual gifts as they look at Paul’s teaching from 1 Corinthians 12.  The adults will continue a study about what  true foundations of biblical Christianity are all about. All will meet at 9:15 in the sanctuary for an opening.

Mother’s Day Carnations—Don’t forget to get your carnations this weekend after services and give them to someone you love.  Suggested donation is $1.00 each and all proceeds will benefit pro-life activities of Allen County Right to Life.

Spring Cantata—The weekend of May 17 and 18 the spring cantata Heaven’s Joy will be presented by the Good News Singers.  Join them as they present the glorious wonders of our heavenly home in word and song.

 

Youth—Koinonia and Agape will not meet today (Sunday) due to Mother’s Day.  The deadline for the junior high trip is extended to Monday, May 19.  All current sixth through eighth graders are invited to attend—the trip to southern Indiana is planned for July 13—17.  Please direct any questions to Catie Tapp.

 

Golf outing—The fourth annual PTL golf outing fundraiser will be held again this year on May 18 at Cherry Hill Golf Club. Please get your teams together as soon as possible as we would love to fill all open spots. Forms will be sent home with each student and will also be available in the school office as well as the church office and narthex.  Please contact Mark Webb 482.1580 with any questions or if you have an interest in sponsoring a hole.

 

Confirmation DVDs—there are DVDs of the confirmation service which was held at St. Peter’s on Sunday, April 27.  They are located on the hallway table near the church offices or in the narthex.

Senior Activity—This will be the last program for this year. We will begin with a new schedule in September. If you have a favorite event or location you would like, please let us know about it so we can research it.  We are open to ideas and suggestions.  On Wednesday, May 14, we will leave the church parking lot at 8:30 am and then  use vans to drive to Kendallville. There we will view the 46 windmills and visit the small Windmill Museum. There is a lovely pavilion there, under roof, where you can sit and see the windmills if you are not up to walking through them. This is a tour we feel the men will really enjoy.  Then on to Hudson for “Dillingers” for lunch at 11:45 am (order from the menu $6.00–$9:00).  After lunch we will have a sampling of the Satek winery near Fremont, returning back to Fort Wayne about 4:00 pm.  The cost is $8 per person for transportation and admission.  We must have reservations in by Monday, May 12.  Please call us!!  Bev Hirsch 492.7092 or Ann Schultz 486.8584.

 

Voter's meeting—will take place on Tuesday, May 20 at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary for the purpose of elections and budget presentation and approval. Copies of the nominees and budget information are available in the narthex and outside the church office for your review. Voters’ meetings have been very well attended with very positive dialogue and feedback! Please consider joining your fellow voters so that you are informed of upcoming plans with regard to staffing and building projects. We will also offer child care in the lower level during the meeting.

 

Cross Connections Community—provides professional Christ-centered counseling at a discounted rate for  members of St. Peter’s.  Cross Connections also has 21 Covenant Partners ready to serve. Covenant Partners provide no-cost guidance to deal with life’s challenges according to God’s Word.  They have received intensive training and have been commissioned to ministry by Cross Connections and their congregations.  A new Covenant Partner training class will begin in September.

 

Allen County Jail Chaplaincy Banquet—will be held May 13 at Ceruti’s— Summit Park 2.  Everyone is invited to attend.  Tickets are $25 each and doors open at 6:15 pm.    Speaker is Sheriff Kenneth Fries.  For more information pick up

Cancer pads—There is a need for sheets that will be used to make cancer pads.  Sheets can be any color, size, cotton or flannel.  Please place them on the coat rack by the Fireside Room hallway.  Thank you.

 

BiloxiMembers of St. Peter’s will once again have an opportunity to serve the Lord through rebuilding efforts down in Biloxi, MS. The fourth, four-week rebuilding tour is set for the month of June. Volunteers are asked to pick one of the four weeks to go and work. If you have questions, need more detailed information, or wish to volunteer, please call Mike Bultemeier at 485-1416.  Sunday, May 18th is the deadline for signing up.

 

Quilt knotting—will be held on Monday, May 19 from 9:;00 am—3:00 pm in the Fireside Room.  The needs for quilts are great.  Any amount of time that is available is greatly appreciated.  The need is great, extra quilt knotting days may be scheduled in May and June.  These quilts are distributed by Lutheran World Relief.

 

Clubhouse—is an extended care program which is available to St. Peter’s day school students.  Donations are needed for the 2008-2009 school year and they include Elmer’s Squeeze 7 Brush Washable Paints, Etch-A-Sketch Boards (not travel or mini sizes please), magna Doodles or Doodle pro Drawing Boards (no travel or mini sizes please), Lite Brite set (no travel or mini size please), coloring books, children’s story books and craft supplies or kits.  Thank you so much in advance for your help and support. 

 

Soap—”Jesus love is a bubblin’ over” when you give a wrapped bar of soap to this month’s compassionate care collection for Lutheran  World Relief. Collection boxes are in the narthex, lower level and near the church office.

 

Retrouvaille—helps couples who are considering separation and divorce. Retrouvaille provides the tools that will enable a husband and wife to heal and renew their marriage with the priceless benefit of avoiding the trauma for their children.  The next Retrouvaille weekend is planned for June 13 - 15, 2008.  For information call 485.1944 or 800.470.2230.  All inquiries are confidential.  Brochures are available at church.

 

Coffee Hour—Please join us for a special coffee hour hosted by Karl Kramer and Jesse Brown, financial associates for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.  Karl and Jesse are the representatives assigned to our area and will be visiting with us on Sunday, May 18 on the front porch of St. Peter’s.  To get to know more about Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and what they can offer you, please introduce yourself.

 

Science teacher needed—Concordia Lutheran high School has an opening for a full-time science teacher Candidates must be licensed in both biology and chemistry. Interested candidates should submit a resume to John Marks by e-mail at john@clhscadets.com or by fax at 260.471.0180.

 

Rummage sale—The Ladies Aid rummage sale is scheduled for Thursday, June12 from 8:00 am—3:00 pm and Friday, June 13 from 8:00 am—12:00 noon.  There will be a $3.00 bag sale on Friday.  Items can be brought into the school gym and put on the stage on Saturday, June 7 from 8:00 am—noon and  Sunday, June 8 from 8:00 am until noon, plus Tuesday, June 10 from noon—4:00 pm and Wednesday, June 11 8:00 am—2:00 pm.  Any help sorting on Tuesday and Wednesday would be greatly appreciated

 

Channel 57—St. Peter’s worship services can be viewed on Comcast Channel 57 and FIOS Channel 27 on Sunday evenings at 7:00 pm.   Photographs and videos taken while attending St. Peter’s Lutheran church and school events could be used

in church publicity.
