St. Peter's is a Lutheran congregation in northeast Indiana that has been, for the past 160 years, committed to the teaching of God's inspired and infallible Word as explained by the creeds of the Christian Church and the Confessions of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

As our family of believers continues to grow, we are ever mindful of the changing culture around us. Without compromising the beliefs of our church body, we are always seeking ways to reach the lost and engage all generations through innovative family programming, stellar Bible studies, and uplifting worship opportunities.

We hold that Jesus Christ – crucified and risen again for the forgiveness of our sins (justification) – is the very center and core of who we are (1 Corinthians 2:2). Our Lord comes to us, forgiving our sins and giving of Himself through His Word (2 Timothy 3:16), preaching (2 Timothy 2:15), Baptism (1 Peter 3:21), forgiveness of sins (John 20:23), and the Lord's Supper (1 Corinthians 11:23-26).

Because we have been saved by grace through our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-10), we faithfully serve our neighbor and praise our Lord as His redeemed children (sanctification). We believe that the local congregation is the hope of the world, and we would love to include you in the powerful work of God being done right here in Fort Wayne!

All of that sounds great, but what’s a Lutheran?

A Lutheran is a Christian who accepts and preaches the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teaching of Luther and the reformers can be summarized in three phrases: Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone.

Grace Alone: God loves the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.

Faith Alone: By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear and believe this Good News have the eternal life that it offers. God creates faith in Christ and gives people forgiveness through Him.

Scripture Alone: The Bible is God's inerrant and infallible Word, in which He reveals His Law and His Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.
