Day 1: God Who Overflows
Reading: Psalm 23
Devotional: The psalmist describes a cup that does not merely fill but runs over. This is the nature of the God we serve, One who does not ration grace or measure out mercy in careful portions. The feeding of the five thousand was not a barely sufficient miracle. Twelve baskets remained after everyone had eaten their fill. God's provision consistently exceeds what we think we need. When you find yourself calculating what little you have, pause and remember the character of the One who provides. He is not stingy. He is extravagant. Trust that.
Day 2: The Wilderness and the Feast
Reading: Isaiah 35:1-7
Devotional: Isaiah describes the wilderness itself bursting into bloom at the arrival of God. The crowd in Matthew 14 experienced exactly this: a desolate place transformed by Jesus' presence into a place of healing and abundance. Your wilderness, whether a diagnosis, a broken relationship, or a season of grief, is not beyond His reach. The same God who caused streams to break forth in the desert is present with you in your most barren moments. He does not wait for your circumstances to improve before He shows up. He arrives in the wilderness and changes everything.
Day 3: What Do You Have?
Reading: 2 Corinthians 9:6-11
Devotional: The disciples looked at five loaves and two fish and saw impossibility. Jesus looked at the same offering and saw a miracle waiting to happen. Paul reminds us that the one who sows generously will reap generously. We are conditioned from childhood to grip tightly what is ours, to guard our time, our money, and our hearts against loss. But God's economy operates differently. What we release into His hands does not diminish us. It multiplies. The question Jesus asked His disciples is the same question He asks you today: What do you have? Offer it honestly and openly.
Day 4: The Father Who Throws a Party
Reading: Luke 15:11-24
Devotional: The father in the parable did not greet his returning son with cautious, measured relief. He ran. He robed. He celebrated with extravagance that seemed, by any reasonable standard, excessive. This is the portrait Jesus paints of God the Father. While we were still sinners, still clutching our self-sufficiency, still far off, He moved toward us with everything He had. He did not hold something back pending our improvement. Christ gave all, completely and without reservation, for the undeserving. When shame tells you that you have wandered too far, remember the father who ran. You are not met with reluctance. You are met with a feast.
Day 5: Learning to Open Our Hands
Reading: Matthew 14:13-21
Devotional: The miracle of the loaves and fish is the only miracle outside the resurrection recorded in all four Gospels. The early church treasured it because it revealed an essential truth about life with Jesus. He takes what we offer, however small, blesses it, breaks it, and gives it back in a form that feeds multitudes. This is the pattern of Christian generosity and the pattern of Christian life itself. We are not called to give from surplus. We are called to give from a place of trust. As Christ fills our empty hands with His gifts, He teaches us to open those same hands to others. In His hands, it is always more than enough.
