Vicarage Year Ahead for Seminarian Rick Crain & Family

St. Peter’s is a wonderful, friendly, and caring congregation. I have truly enjoyed my time serving here, and my family and I have always felt welcomed and loved. We'll be serving our Vicarage year at Zion Lutheran Church in Woodburn, IN. We're so thankful to be blessed with a local placement.

I learned so much at St. Peter's. The pastors have been very helpful, providing tips and training on the readings, preaching, and liturgy. I am very grateful.

I haven’t served in a large congregation until now, so it was helpful to see how it works. I learned how to lead a Bible class for young children during the HOPE sessions and gained experience leading the public school confirmation class when filling in for one of the pastors. It was a great experience serving as a driver and chaperone for the confirmation trip to Camp Lutherhaven.

An important memory that will stick with me is to remember to ask follow-up questions for more clarity. For instance, Pastor Nate called during Lent to remind me I was preaching at both the midday and evening services. I had to travel quickly from the seminary to the midday service; it worked out well, but it was definitely a learning experience I won’t forget.

Thank you for allowing me to learn and grow alongside you. You will remain in our prayers.

In Christ,

Rick Crain
