An LSSI Financial Literacy Program

This September, we rally around the Lutheran Social Services of Indiana with an annual collection for a program that has a long history in this community called Cup of Kindness. LSSI is clarifying their mission by updating the name of this program on their website to Financial Stability Program. Generally this collection is done in December, but we've moved it to our September Special Monthly Offering.

Why do we feel this mission is so important that we collect for it each year? Individuals and families come to this program feeling hopelessness and helplessness as a result of debt or their relationship with finances. The financial stability model brings hope, help, and change to those struggling financially.

The program itself can help meet basic needs, but it doesn't stop there. It's a program that will increase financial understanding and build stronger habits. It's designed to teach how to set goals and create personal plans to establish financial stability.

Some things a participant in the program can expect is to meet one-on-one weekly for financial mentoring and support and guided through a curriculum with self-reflection and goal setting between sessions. Together participants will identify their relationship with money and envision how they want their future to look along with guidance and support to help establish and follow a budget.

There is some direct financial assistance, but this is subject to both need and the availability of funds. By donating funds to this program, we enable them to support each family according to what helps them best in their situation.  Referrals to additional LSSI and Community Resources including assistance with employment, childcare, and parenting skills are also part of this incredible opportunity to get out from under the weight of financial insecurity.

If you or someone you know has questions or interested in enrolling in the program you can fill out their contact form here: https://lssin.org/contact/ or call 260-426-3347.
