Ministry Theme Hymn

One in Christ and one in Spirit, one in Christian unity.

From our Father, we inherit life with Him eternally.

Made anew in Word and water, freed from death and cleansed from sin.

Perfect son and holy daughter – hearts made pure and whole within.

Christian sisters, Christian brothers, reaching out to those in need,

We proclaim Good News to others as we boldly share our creed.

In our learning and our growing, we are strengthened in the Word.

In our coming and our going, we live out what we have heard.

One in Christ, now and forever, with one voice, we gladly sing.

Neither life nor death can sever Christians from their loving King.

As we learn of His salvation, may we tell of Jesus’ grace

To each future generation at all times, in ev’ry place.

Our ministry-wide church and school theme this year is “Called in One”, based on Colossians 3:15: “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” Using this verse as a basis, we’d like to introduce to you this year’s theme hymn: “One in Christ and One in Spirit.” This hymn comes from the most recent children’s hymnal, “One and All Rejoice,” published by Concordia Publishing House. The tune for this hymn is called NETTLETON, which you know as the melody to the hymn, “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing.” This hymn wonderfully reflects our theme and mission of being one united people of God here at St. Peter’s.

With this coming weekend, August 8-10, being Christian Education weekend, we will sing this hymn this weekend in worship, as well as in day school opening chapel on August 12. To remind us of our theme, and to strengthen the unity we have together, we will sing this hymn about once a month both in day school chapel on Wednesday mornings, as well as in weekend worship. I encourage you to read and familiarize yourself with this text, as we all – young and old, adults and children, church and school, – sing it together. For together, we are “Called in One.”

In addition to this hymn, we're also making the ministry theme t-shirts available to the congregation to order until August 30th. Next Sunday following the 8 am and 10:30 am worship services, you can order and pay for your shirts in the Ministry Center. They will be $14 if you pay in person in the Ministry Center or the church office during the week. We will conveniently have online orders available with an added credit card fee for $15. Further details & links will be listed under "What's New" on the Hub very soon.
