Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

One of the great joys of serving at St. Peter's is seeing how closely our congregation, school, and preschool ministry belong together. Each day, our classrooms are filled with children who are learning, growing, asking questions, building friendships, and hearing, once again, that Jesus loves them. Our teachers and staff carry out this ministry with patience, faithfulness, and deep care for the students entrusted to them.

This year, our shared theme is "Called In One," drawn from Colossians 3:15: "And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body." These words remind us that Christ has joined our church, school, and preschool together as one body, called to share His peace and His love with one another and with the children and families He places in our care.

On the weekend of August 8-9, we will celebrate this shared ministry during Christian Education Sunday. At all services, we will rededicate our faculty and staff to their teaching ministry. As we do, we will also rededicate ourselves as a congregation to praying for them, encouraging them, and supporting the work God has given us to do together.

At the 10:30 am service, we will also install Janet Bahr as our assistant principal and Dianna Bultemeier as a called teacher of St. Peter's. A reception honoring Janet and Dianna will be held on the church's front porch. I invite you to be present as we welcome them, give thanks for their gifts, and ask God to bless their service among our students and families.

Finally, students of every age are encouraged to bring their backpacks for a special blessing. A backpack may seem like an ordinary thing, but it carries books, assignments, lunches, worries, hopes, and all that comes with another academic year. We will pray that Christ goes with our students into every classroom and through every challenge they face.
