Standing on God's Eternal Gospel

Day 1: The Gospel That Saves

Reading: Romans 3:21-28

Devotional: Martin Luther discovered what had been hidden in plain sight: we are justified by faith apart from works. Like Luther, we often search for forgiveness in all the wrong places—our good deeds, our religious activities, our moral achievements. Yet Paul declares that righteousness comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone. The gospel is God's power for salvation, not our power for self-improvement. Today, stop striving and start receiving. God has already acted on your behalf through Christ's death and resurrection. Your sins are forgiven not because of what you've done, but because of what He has done. This truth liberates us from the exhausting treadmill of performance and places us firmly on the solid ground of grace.

Day 2: Bound to Scripture and Conscience

Reading: 2 Timothy 3:14-17

Devotional: "Here I stand. I cannot do otherwise." Luther's famous words at the Diet of Worms remind us that God's Word must be our ultimate authority. When pressured by the most powerful men in Europe, Luther clung to Scripture rather than human tradition or institutional pressure. All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. In our world of competing voices and conflicting opinions, we need the anchor of God's Word. What influences are competing for authority in your life? Social media opinions? Cultural trends? Family expectations? Like Luther, bind your conscience to Scripture. Let God's eternal gospel—not the world's temporary wisdom—shape your beliefs and guide your decisions. Stand firm on what God has revealed.

Day 3: The Power of Proclaimed Forgiveness

Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:1-11

Devotional: The gospel Paul proclaimed is the same eternal gospel Luther rediscovered: Christ died for our sins, was buried, and was raised on the third day. This isn't merely information to know but power to experience. The sermon reminds us that when God's forgiveness is proclaimed, people weep with relief and smile with freedom. The gospel has transformative power because it's not our word but God's. You carry this same powerful message. When you speak forgiveness to someone burdened by guilt, you're not offering empty comfort—you're delivering divine liberation. The gospel you proclaim can break chains, heal wounds, and restore hope. Don't underestimate what God can do through your simple words: "You are forgiven."

Day 4: Authentically His

Reading: 1 John 3:1-3

Devotional: "I'm not authentically Christian. I know who I am—a sinner." This thought paralyzes many believers from sharing the gospel. But John declares: "See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are!" Your identity isn't rooted in your performance but in God's love. Luther understood he was a "poor, miserable sinner," yet God used him to change the world. Your past failures don't disqualify you; Christ's perfect righteousness qualifies you. You are authentically His—adopted, beloved, forgiven, and commissioned. The world needs to hear the gospel from imperfect people who know they've been perfectly loved. Your brokenness makes you the ideal messenger of grace.

Day 5: Standing Against the Powers

Reading: Ephesians 6:10-20

Devotional: Luther stood against popes and emperors. What powers do you face? Perhaps not political authorities, but the tyranny of workplace expectations, family pressures, or your own condemning thoughts. Paul reminds us that our struggle isn't ultimately against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces. Yet we're not defenseless. The gospel of peace is our footwear; faith is our shield; salvation is our helmet; God's Word is our sword. Like those eighth graders who prayed for nearly an hour in silence, we can endure because we know there's an eternal gospel with power to forgive and transform. Today, take your stand. Speak truth to the powers that would silence you. God has given you His armor, His Word, and His Spirit. You are equipped to proclaim freedom.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I hope this note finds you well and encouraged in the Lord. St. Peter’s continues to be a place where God is at work through our preschool, school, various ministries, and the daily faithfulness of His people. I am grateful to serve the Lord with you in this place! As we continue to serve together, I want to update you on changes in our church office and ministry staff. As many of you know, Michelle Leahy has been serving as our “Interim Director of Operations,” providing support and coordination across many areas of congregational life. In the coming weeks, Michelle will be stepping into a new role, “Executive Director.” This means her work will shift from hands-on ministry support to more administrative leadership and oversight of the church office, properties, finances, and technology. This is an important step for us as a congregation as we continue to support our staff and serve our members. With this change, we want to ensure that daily ministry needs are met. After reviewing our current staffing and budget, we can make an adjustment that supports the ongoing ministry without increasing costs. To that end, Kami Jo Mogelvang will expand her role to serve as “Church Ministry Coordinator.” Many of you have already seen Kami Jo assisting Pastor McDowell in youth ministry two days each week. Under the new alignment, she will: Continue serving in youth ministry, and Help coordinate ministry efforts and volunteer connections with Pastor Nate and Pastor McDowell across the congregation. This will help us strengthen volunteer support and the many “connecting points” that help our church family care for one another. As Kami Jo transitions out of her receptionist duties, this change will open about 18 hours per week at the front desk, which we have posted. This staffing arrangement stays within our approved 2025 budget. I am thankful for Michelle, Kami Jo, our staff, and all our volunteers. I also appreciate the spirit of grace and partnership that marks our congregation. Please keep our staff and ministry leaders in your prayers as we move through these transitions. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for the privilege of serving Christ with you! In Christ, Pastor Danny Eggold St. Peter’s Lutheran Church & School
