5 Day Devo

Sermon by Pastor Danny Eggold

Day 1: A Great Cloud of Witnesses; Reading: Hebrews 12:1-3; Devotional: We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses—saints who have walked the path of faith before us. Like runners in a race, they cheer us onward, their lives testifying to God's faithfulness. Consider those who taught you to pray, who shared Jesus' love with you, who steadied you when you wavered. Their faith was not self-made; it was a gift from God, nurtured through community and passed down to you. Today, thank God for these spiritual ancestors. Their example reminds us that we don't run this race alone. We are connected across generations by the same grace that saved them and saves us now.

Reflection Question: Who first taught you about Jesus, and how did their faith shape yours?

Day 2: Children of God; Reading: 1 John 3:1-3; Devotional:
"See what kind of love the Father has given us that we should be called children of God." This isn't something we earned or created ourselves—it's pure gift. The saints we remember weren't perfect people who achieved sainthood through extraordinary deeds. They were forgiven sinners, washed clean by the blood of the Lamb. You are too. This identity as God's beloved child is your foundation, given in baptism, sustained through Word and Sacrament. When you feel inadequate or unworthy, remember: your status depends not on your performance but on God's love. You are His child, now and forever.

Reflection Question: How does knowing you are God's child change how you view yourself today?

Day 3: Robes Washed White; Reading: Revelation 7:9-17; Devotional:
The multitude before God's throne wears white robes, not because they lived spotless lives, but because they've been washed in the blood of the Lamb. This paradox—being made white through blood—captures the mystery of grace. Our righteousness is not our own; it's Christ's righteousness given to us. The saints who've gone before endured trials, faced doubts, and sometimes failed, yet they clung to Jesus. Their salvation, like ours, was entirely His work. Today, when you're aware of your failures and shortcomings, remember that Christ's sacrifice covers all. Your robe is already white. Stand confidently in His grace.

Reflection Question: What burden of guilt can you release today, trusting in Christ's complete forgiveness?

Day 4: Salvation Belongs to Our God; Reading: Psalm 3:1-8; Devotional:
"Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb." These words remind us that rescue comes from God alone, not from our efforts, achievements, or self-improvement projects. We live in a culture that celebrates the "self-made" person, but faith tells a different story. Every good thing in your life—your faith, your hope, your ability to love—is a gift. The saints understood this. They pointed not to themselves but to the One who saved them. Today, release the exhausting burden of trying to save yourself. Trust that God has already accomplished what you could never do.

Reflection Question: In what area of life are you trying to be "self-made" instead of God-dependent?

Day 5: Faithful in Your Generation; Reading: 2 Timothy 1:3-7; Devotional:
Paul reminds Timothy of the faith that lived first in his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. Faith is passed down through generations of faithful witnesses. Just as you've been shaped by saints who came before, you are now shaping those who come after. You don't need to be famous or extraordinary. The saints we remember today were mostly ordinary people who loved God faithfully in their own time and place—some bold, some timid, all beloved. Your quiet faithfulness matters. Your prayers, your service, your witness are forming the next generation. Be faithful where God has placed you today.

Reflection Question: Who is watching your faith, and what are they learning from your example?

Closing Prayer:

Almighty God, we thank You for the great multitude of saints who have gone before us. Thank You for those who taught us to pray, who shared Your Word with us, and who showed us the way to Your throne. Help us to be faithful in our generation, pointing others to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. In His name we pray, Amen.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I hope this note finds you well and encouraged in the Lord. St. Peter’s continues to be a place where God is at work through our preschool, school, various ministries, and the daily faithfulness of His people. I am grateful to serve the Lord with you in this place! As we continue to serve together, I want to update you on changes in our church office and ministry staff. As many of you know, Michelle Leahy has been serving as our “Interim Director of Operations,” providing support and coordination across many areas of congregational life. In the coming weeks, Michelle will be stepping into a new role, “Executive Director.” This means her work will shift from hands-on ministry support to more administrative leadership and oversight of the church office, properties, finances, and technology. This is an important step for us as a congregation as we continue to support our staff and serve our members. With this change, we want to ensure that daily ministry needs are met. After reviewing our current staffing and budget, we can make an adjustment that supports the ongoing ministry without increasing costs. To that end, Kami Jo Mogelvang will expand her role to serve as “Church Ministry Coordinator.” Many of you have already seen Kami Jo assisting Pastor McDowell in youth ministry two days each week. Under the new alignment, she will: Continue serving in youth ministry, and Help coordinate ministry efforts and volunteer connections with Pastor Nate and Pastor McDowell across the congregation. This will help us strengthen volunteer support and the many “connecting points” that help our church family care for one another. As Kami Jo transitions out of her receptionist duties, this change will open about 18 hours per week at the front desk, which we have posted. This staffing arrangement stays within our approved 2025 budget. I am thankful for Michelle, Kami Jo, our staff, and all our volunteers. I also appreciate the spirit of grace and partnership that marks our congregation. Please keep our staff and ministry leaders in your prayers as we move through these transitions. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for the privilege of serving Christ with you! In Christ, Pastor Danny Eggold St. Peter’s Lutheran Church & School
