Sermon by Pastor Nate Widener "Anxiety and Faith, Part 2"

Day 1: Trusting God's Plan

Reading: Genesis 15:1-6

Devotional: Abram's journey of faith reminds us that God's plans often unfold differently than we expect. Like Abram, we may feel frustrated when our hopes seem delayed or unfulfilled. Yet God calls us to trust Him even when we can't see the full picture. Reflect on a time when you struggled to trust God's timing. How did God prove faithful in that situation? Today, bring your hopes to God in prayer. Ask Him to strengthen your faith and help you see beyond your immediate circumstances to His greater purpose.

Prayer for the day: Dear Lord, if it is your will send me on a journey today.  Use me in a way that is good and right according to your will and help me to make a difference in the lives of others.  Help me to trust You and make You my priority.

Day 2: Living by Faith, Not by Sight

Reading: Hebrews 11:1-6

Devotional: Faith is the foundation of our relationship with God. It allows us to grasp spiritual realities we cannot see with our physical eyes. The author of Hebrews reminds us that without faith, it's impossible to please God. Consider areas in your life where you're tempted to rely on your own understanding rather than trusting God. How might your perspective change if you approached these situations with the "assurance of things hoped for"? Ask God to give you perspective on your faith today and provide you with the courage to step out in obedience, even when the path ahead is unclear.

Prayer for the day: Dear Lord, I cannot always understand Your will and Your ways, but I trust in You and Your Son Jesus Christ.  Strengthen my understanding and allow me to grow in Your ways, so that I may do what is good in Your eyes and apply this to my life.

Day 3: God's Provision in Times of Need

Reading: Luke 12:22-31

Devotional: Jesus teaches us not to worry about our basic needs, assuring us that our Heavenly Father knows what we require. This doesn't mean we'll never face hardship, but it does promise that God cares deeply for us and will provide. Reflect on times when you've experienced God's provision in unexpected ways. How can remembering these experiences help alleviate current anxieties? Today, practice seeking God's kingdom first by intentionally focusing on spiritual priorities rather than material concerns.

Prayer for the day:  Dearest Heavenly Father, I know that my needs are taken care of by your and the Holy Spirit and I trust in Your will.  Please help me to rely more on You than myself and remember that I can trust in You for everything.  Help me to give my worries to You and know that You are the creator of the universe.

Day 4: Finding Strength in God, Not Self

Reading: Psalm 33:16-22

Devotional: Our culture often emphasizes self-reliance, but Scripture teaches us to place our trust in God alone. Like the psalmist, we must recognize that true security comes not from our own strength or resources, but from the Lord. Consider areas where you might be overly reliant on your own abilities or worldly security. How can you shift your focus to depend more fully on God? Spend time in prayer, surrendering these areas to God and asking Him to be your shield and source of hope.

Prayer for the day: O God, we do not put our trust in ourselves and our possessions, but, rather, we put our trust in You.  Please help me to grow and mature in my faith so that I can properly represent you and learn to live according to Your plan for my life.  Help me, O Lord, to put You first and myself second.

Day 5: Eternal Perspective in Present Trials

Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Devotional: Paul encourages us to maintain an eternal perspective even in the midst of earthly struggles. Our present difficulties, while real and often painful, are temporary in light of eternity. This truth doesn't diminish our current experiences but offers hope and context for our suffering. Reflect on a current challenge you're facing. How might viewing it through the lens of eternity change your approach? Ask God to renew your inner spirit daily and fix your eyes on the unseen, eternal realities of His kingdom.

Prayer for the day:  Dearest Father, our lives are sometimes difficult and painful and we long to be with You.  Give us patience until the day when we can walk with You and see Your face.  Give us patience, O Lord, and grant us perspective so that we can recognize that this world is temporary, but Your love is eternal.  Show me how I can order my life according to this truth.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I hope this note finds you well and encouraged in the Lord. St. Peter’s continues to be a place where God is at work through our preschool, school, various ministries, and the daily faithfulness of His people. I am grateful to serve the Lord with you in this place! As we continue to serve together, I want to update you on changes in our church office and ministry staff. As many of you know, Michelle Leahy has been serving as our “Interim Director of Operations,” providing support and coordination across many areas of congregational life. In the coming weeks, Michelle will be stepping into a new role, “Executive Director.” This means her work will shift from hands-on ministry support to more administrative leadership and oversight of the church office, properties, finances, and technology. This is an important step for us as a congregation as we continue to support our staff and serve our members. With this change, we want to ensure that daily ministry needs are met. After reviewing our current staffing and budget, we can make an adjustment that supports the ongoing ministry without increasing costs. To that end, Kami Jo Mogelvang will expand her role to serve as “Church Ministry Coordinator.” Many of you have already seen Kami Jo assisting Pastor McDowell in youth ministry two days each week. Under the new alignment, she will: Continue serving in youth ministry, and Help coordinate ministry efforts and volunteer connections with Pastor Nate and Pastor McDowell across the congregation. This will help us strengthen volunteer support and the many “connecting points” that help our church family care for one another. As Kami Jo transitions out of her receptionist duties, this change will open about 18 hours per week at the front desk, which we have posted. This staffing arrangement stays within our approved 2025 budget. I am thankful for Michelle, Kami Jo, our staff, and all our volunteers. I also appreciate the spirit of grace and partnership that marks our congregation. Please keep our staff and ministry leaders in your prayers as we move through these transitions. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for the privilege of serving Christ with you! In Christ, Pastor Danny Eggold St. Peter’s Lutheran Church & School
