Sermon by Pastor Paul Dancy

Day 1: The Shepherd's Heart

Reading: Psalm 23 and John 10:11-18

Devotional: As we reflect on the image of Christ as our Good Shepherd, consider how He leads, protects, and cares for His flock. Just as earthly shepherds guide their sheep to green pastures and quiet waters, Jesus guides us through life's challenges, providing spiritual nourishment and peace. How has God's shepherding presence comforted you in times of need? Take a moment to thank Him for His constant care and protection. Today, listen for the Shepherd's voice in His Word and follow His leading with trust and obedience.

Day 2: The Keys of the Kingdom

Reading: Matthew 16:13-19 and John 20:19-23

Devotional: Jesus entrusted His disciples with the "keys of the kingdom" - the authority to forgive or retain someone's sins when they repent, and to proclaim the gospel. This profound responsibility extends to all believers today in an individual way, especially when someone has wronged you personally. Reflect on the weight of this calling and the transformative power of forgiveness. Consider someone you need to forgive or from whom you need to seek forgiveness. Pray for the courage to extend or seek reconciliation, remembering that as we forgive, we mirror God's forgiveness towards us.

Day 3: Called to Serve

Reading: 1 Peter 5:1-4 and Mark 10:42-45

Devotional: Leadership in God's kingdom is characterized by humble service, not domineering authority. Jesus exemplified this by washing His disciples' feet and ultimately laying down His life for us. As you read about the qualities of godly leaders, examine your own heart. In what areas of your life are you called to lead by serving? Whether in your family, workplace, or church, how can you emulate Christ's servant leadership today? Ask God to cultivate a servant's heart within you, always looking to the needs of others before your own.

Day 4: Watchmen on the Wall

Reading: Ezekiel 33:1-9 and Acts 20:28-31

Devotional: The image of a watchman carries great responsibility - to warn of coming danger and protect those under their care. In our spiritual lives, we're called to be vigilant against sin and false teaching, both for ourselves and others. How attentive are you to spiritual dangers in your life? Are there areas where you've become complacent? Pray for discernment and courage to address sin in your life and lovingly guide others towards truth. Listen to your pastors, and remember, our ultimate security comes not from our own vigilance, but from Christ's unfailing protection.

Day 5: Proclaiming Christ Crucified

Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 and Romans 1:16-17

Devotional: At the heart of the Christian message is "Christ crucified" - a stumbling block to some, foolishness to others, but the power of God for those being saved. As you meditate on these verses, consider the centrality of the cross in your own faith journey. How has the message of Christ's sacrificial love transformed your life? In a world that often rejects this truth, how can you boldly yet lovingly proclaim the gospel? Ask God for opportunities to share your faith today, and for the words to speak when those moments arise. Remember, it's not eloquence or wisdom that saves, but the power of God through the simple, profound message of the cross.
