A Season of Gratitude

Three Ways to Serve this Thanksgiving

As Thanksgiving approaches, our church family is blessed with meaningful opportunities to care for one another and to extend Christ’s love to our community. Whether you’ve joined these efforts before or are considering it for the first time, we warmly encourage each member to choose at least one way to participate this year. Your contribution—large or small—makes a difference.

1. Thanksgiving Food Drive — Happening Now Through Thanksgiving Day

Our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive is underway, and every item collected helps us support individuals and families in our congregation, school, and preschool who could use food assistance this holiday season.

How to donate:

  • Thanksgiving Eve Service (Wed, Nov 26 at 7 pm): Bring items to the tables in the west corridor
  • Thanksgiving Morning Service (Thurs, Nov 27 at 9 am): Tables in the west corridor
  • Before Thanksgiving: Drop items into the Compassionate Care Collection metal baskets located in the Ministry Center or Narthex (north of the sanctuary)

Please donate non-expired canned and pantry items to help fill the shelves—and hearts—of families in need. We’re also grateful for the generous response of members who have already given $25 grocery gift cards, which will be included anonymously in the Thanksgiving food distributions.

If you or someone you know from our congregation, day school, or preschool could use food assistance this November, please speak confidentially with one of our pastors.

2. Produce Donations for the Altar Guild’s Thanksgiving Display

The Altar Guild is once again preparing a beautiful Thanksgiving display for our worship services. You can participate by donating fresh produce to adorn the sanctuary.

Produce Drop-Off:

  • Before 10 am on Wednesday, November 26
  • Bring items to the sacristy (the room behind the baptismal font)

After the services, suitable produce will be added to the Thanksgiving Food Drive—another way your gift can bless others.

3. “Boxes of Love” Food Sorting

Friday, November 28 at 9 am - West Corridor outside the sanctuary

One of our favorite Thanksgiving traditions is assembling food boxes to support families who have expressed a need. On Friday, Nov 28 at 9 am, volunteers of all ages are invited to help sort and pack food.

The process is done respectfully and confidentially, and it’s a wonderful family-friendly way to serve together. We’d be grateful for your helping hands!

We invite you to prayerfully choose at least one or more of these opportunities to CARE for each other and with each other. This season of gratitude becomes even richer when we share what God has given us with others.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I hope this note finds you well and encouraged in the Lord. St. Peter’s continues to be a place where God is at work through our preschool, school, various ministries, and the daily faithfulness of His people. I am grateful to serve the Lord with you in this place! As we continue to serve together, I want to update you on changes in our church office and ministry staff. As many of you know, Michelle Leahy has been serving as our “Interim Director of Operations,” providing support and coordination across many areas of congregational life. In the coming weeks, Michelle will be stepping into a new role, “Executive Director.” This means her work will shift from hands-on ministry support to more administrative leadership and oversight of the church office, properties, finances, and technology. This is an important step for us as a congregation as we continue to support our staff and serve our members. With this change, we want to ensure that daily ministry needs are met. After reviewing our current staffing and budget, we can make an adjustment that supports the ongoing ministry without increasing costs. To that end, Kami Jo Mogelvang will expand her role to serve as “Church Ministry Coordinator.” Many of you have already seen Kami Jo assisting Pastor McDowell in youth ministry two days each week. Under the new alignment, she will: Continue serving in youth ministry, and Help coordinate ministry efforts and volunteer connections with Pastor Nate and Pastor McDowell across the congregation. This will help us strengthen volunteer support and the many “connecting points” that help our church family care for one another. As Kami Jo transitions out of her receptionist duties, this change will open about 18 hours per week at the front desk, which we have posted. This staffing arrangement stays within our approved 2025 budget. I am thankful for Michelle, Kami Jo, our staff, and all our volunteers. I also appreciate the spirit of grace and partnership that marks our congregation. Please keep our staff and ministry leaders in your prayers as we move through these transitions. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for the privilege of serving Christ with you! In Christ, Pastor Danny Eggold St. Peter’s Lutheran Church & School
