Vision to Victory Continues

Members of St. Peter's,

We have completed the first year of our three-year capital campaign, Vision to Victory, and we felt it was appropriate to give you an update.

But first, let us take this opportunity to thank all those who have participated so far. There are those who have pledged and given a one-time gift. To those people, we say thank you, because it is these gifts given early in the campaign that allowed us to complete as many improvements as we have so far. There are those who made a pledge to give a certain amount over a three year span. To those people, we also give our heartfelt thanks, because it is these gifts, given over time, that will allow us to complete all the improvement work we have planned.

Some initially made pledges, but have yet to contribute. To those members, we would ask that you prayerfully consider your position in staying true to your promise of help. And there have been a number of people who did not make a formal pledge, yet have made a substantial contribution to the campaign. For those funds, we are extremely grateful, because they are additional assurance that we will meet all of our goals as a united church family.

Thank you, all.

So where are we?

By the end of the first year, we have received $543,864 in pledges, and an additional $101,151 in non-pledged gifts, bringing total gifts to $645,015 to date. And that is fantastic news! Thank you!

And what have we done with these funds?

We are all aware of the improvements made in our sanctuary. Work continues on the organ. All the pipes have been reinstalled. We are waiting on the factory work to be completed on the organ console and reinstallation. Completed work at the school includes installation of blinds on all classroom windows last summer. Air conditioning for the school gym and cafeteria was installed this summer, along with necessary electrical service and Fire Panel upgrades needed to support this new A\C. And the mortgage has been paid down from $821k at the start of the campaign to $362k at the current time – a decrease in our mortgage balance of more than $450k!

More work is scheduled for the coming years, but we are extremely grateful for the progress made to date. We thank each of you, and praise the Lord for our success so far! Let’s keep this momentum rolling!

In His Service,

Mark and Sandy Timm

You are invited!

I want to share a story, actually several stories. I remember when I was young in Tulsa, Oklahoma and in Fredericktown, Missouri, of going up to the altar rail with my parents and receiving a blessing from my pastor. I remember sticking my head in between the posts on the altar rail and the pastor giving me a blessing. I don't exactly remember the words, but I knew it was important and I wanted that blessing. I remember in confirmation learning about what the pastor was actually saying, what those words actually meant. To understand what God was saying in his scriptures and growing in it. Overall, just being absolutely amazed at what my pastors, Pastor Sean and Pastor Beering were teaching me and knowing God better and just the joyfulness of it. And I remember Lyndi going through confirmation, adult confirmation, with Pastor Schueler in Rosenberg, Texas, and then seeing from her eyes what it meant to be Lutheran, to understand the faith. I had grown up in the Lutheran church, so it was all ordinary for me, but for her it was extraordinary to know and to understand and have that time with a pastor. And I'm so thankful for the pastors in my life and all of the other church workers that have been a part of my life who have helped me to understand who God is. I mentioned in this weekend’s sermon that there's an initiative, a program through the LCMS called Set Apart to Serve. It points out that we have a lack of pastors, teachers, and other church workers. Set Apart to Serve reminds us that the Lord asks us to pray for laborers for the harvest, and I encourage you to pray for laborers for the harvest. To pray for those that teach us who God is and to help us to understand how much we need him. If you happen to know some young people considering church work or being pastors, pray for them, encourage them. God has gifted them to us to answer our questions. Pray fervently that the Lord would send workers into his harvest so that we know him. Keep that in your prayers. I encourage you to look for people who would be good to take God's calling into his church. May the Lord provide workers for His harvest that we may know God and how richly He blesses us. Amen.
