Meal Train Ministry Reboot

Help Us Show Love through Food

Some days can start in the simplest, most mundane, fashion only to change rapidly in the blink of an eye. Many years ago, an ordinary day started with a to do list that included laundry and caring for two small children. That laundry turned out to be more dangerous than I ever imagined. When I bent over to add some baby clothes to the bottom drawer, a disc in my lower back bulged and caused a surge of blinding pain. In an instant my day shifted to one filled with doctors and medications. That evening I felt so miserable and so discouraged, unable to move off the couch to care for my family. That was when my "family" at St. Peter's stepped in. They showed up that evening and for the next two weeks, brought meals for my family, loved us, and nourished us when I was at my worst. Even though the back pain and recovery were a struggle, it felt so wonderful to receive that care.

Like so many other things, the pandemic took a toll on our Meal Ministry efforts, but a great trio of women (Mary Koenemann, Linda Doehrmann, and Emily Weible) have come forward to resurrect and expand this important ministry. They are currently gathering names of individuals who would be willing to prepare even a portion of a meal for another person or family in distress. They are also developing some strategies to make this entire process easier on all. For example, if you are like me and have a hard time deciding what to make for someone else, they have a plan for you.

If you like to cook (or can just purchase a gift card or order food delivery), you can help out in two ways.

  1. Join the list of potential cooks when meals are needed.
  2. Click here to send me an email, and I will pass this along to the team.
  3. Join us on Friday, September 27 at 5:30 pm in the Church Kitchen to help assemble meals for the freezer so they are ready to go.

Please pray for our Meal Train Ministry helpers and all those who will benefit from their loving care, those who are recovering from an illness/injury/surgery, those with a new baby, those going through medical treatments, those with a death in the family, those experiencing a struggle in the family, and more.

If you ever find that you could benefit from a time of meal support, please contact the church office at 749-5816 or churchoffice@stpetersfw.org.
