5 Day Devo
Walking with the Risen Christ
5-Day Devotional: Walking with the Risen Christ
Day 1: When Hope Seems Lost
Reading: Luke 24:13-24
Devotional: "We had hoped" - three words that capture the weight of disappointment. The disciples on the Emmaus road carried crushed expectations, walking away from what they thought was finished. Perhaps you find yourself in a similar place today, where dreams have died and hope feels like a distant memory. Notice that Jesus doesn't scold them for their despair. Instead, He draws near. The risen Christ meets us precisely in our disappointments, not after we've processed them or moved past them. Your sadness, your confusion, your dashed hopes - these aren't barriers to Christ's presence. They're the very places He chooses to walk alongside you. What hopes have you buried? Invite the risen Christ into that space today.
Day 2: Hearts That Burn
Reading: Luke 24:25-32
Devotional: As Jesus opened the Scriptures, the disciples' hearts burned within them, though they didn't yet recognize Him. God's Word has power to ignite something in us even when we don't fully understand what's happening. The Scriptures aren't just ancient texts; they're living encounters with the risen Christ who speaks through them. When was the last time your heart burned as you read God's Word? This burning isn't mere emotion - it's the Spirit bearing witness to truth, preparing us for revelation. Today, approach Scripture not as information to acquire but as an invitation to encounter. Read slowly. Listen deeply. Let the Word do its work in you, warming cold places and illuminating dark corners.
Day 3: The Breaking of Bread
Reading: Luke 24:28-35
Devotional: Recognition came in the breaking of bread - an ordinary meal transformed into extraordinary revelation. Jesus reveals Himself in the familiar, the mundane, the everyday moments we might otherwise overlook. The Eucharist reminds us that Christ doesn't only meet us in mountain-top experiences but at the table, in community, in the simple act of sharing a meal. Where might Christ be revealing Himself to you in ordinary moments? Perhaps in the morning coffee, the evening meal with family, the routine gathering with fellow believers. Don't despise the ordinary; it's often the stage for divine encounter. Today, practice presence. Slow down enough to notice Christ in the breaking of your daily bread.
Day 4: Compelled to Witness
Reading: Acts 4:13-20
Devotional: "We cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard." True witnesses don't manufacture testimony; they overflow with it. The disciples couldn't stay in Emmaus, couldn't keep silent, couldn't contain what they'd experienced. When Christ truly meets us, silence becomes impossible - not from obligation but from abundance. Consider this: silence about Christ can be a form of lovelessness. If you've received mercy, forgiveness, hope, and new life, love compels you to share it. You're not called to be impressive or eloquent, just honest. What have you seen? What have you heard? Who in your life needs to hear that Christ is risen? Today, ask God for one opportunity to simply point someone toward Jesus, sharing what He's done for you.
Day 5: Sent Into the World
Reading: Matthew 28:16-20
Devotional: The resurrection wasn't the end - it was the beginning. The disciples didn't build a shrine at Emmaus; they returned to Jerusalem and went into all the world. Easter faith propels us outward, not inward. You are here because someone loved Jesus enough to tell you about Him. You believe because someone witnessed. Now you're part of that chain, carrying the good news forward. Being a witness isn't complicated: tell what you've seen and heard. You don't need theological degrees or perfect understanding. You simply need to point beyond yourself to the wonder of God who rose, who came back, who is present still. This week, move from spectator to participant. Let your life be a living witness that Christ is risen indeed.
