Day 1: The Gospel of Today

Reading: Luke 2:8-14

Devotional:

When the angels announced Christ's birth, they proclaimed a present reality: "Today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you." God doesn't deal in distant promises—He acts now. The shepherds didn't receive an invitation to wait; they were summoned to witness salvation breaking into their present moment. How often do we push God's work into tomorrow, preferring the comfort of spiritual procrastination? Christ's kingdom isn't a future concept to contemplate—it's a present reality to enter. Today, God is speaking. Today, He offers mercy. Today, His promises are being fulfilled in your life. Will you meet Him in this moment, or keep Him waiting in tomorrow's plans?

Day 2: Scripture Fulfilled Today

Reading: Luke 4:14-21

Devotional:

Jesus stood in the synagogue, read Isaiah's prophecy about the Messiah, and declared, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." The waiting was over. God's promises weren't distant hopes—they were present realities in Christ. We often treat God's Word as inspirational literature for someday rather than transformative truth for today. We make lists of spiritual intentions while avoiding the immediate work of surrender. But Jesus confronts our delays with His immediacy. The freedom He promises, the healing He offers, the new life He brings—these aren't future possibilities. They're today's invitation. What scripture is God fulfilling in your hearing right now? What promise is He asking you to believe and live today?

Day 3: Salvation Comes Today

Reading: Luke 19:1-10

Devotional:

Zacchaeus climbed a tree seeking a glimpse of Jesus, but received far more—a personal invitation: "I must stay at your house today." And later, "Today salvation has come to this house." Jesus didn't schedule a future appointment; He entered Zacchaeus's life immediately, transforming everything. Salvation isn't a distant transaction—it's Christ's present presence in our homes, our hearts, our chaos. We often want to clean ourselves up before inviting Jesus in, but He doesn't wait for our readiness. He invites Himself into our mess today. Where is Jesus asking to enter your life right now? What room have you been keeping locked, planning to open "someday"? Today, Christ stands at that door.

Day 4: Paradise Promised Today

Reading: Luke 23:32-43

Devotional:

On the cross, a dying thief made a desperate plea, and Jesus responded with immediate grace: "Today you will be with me in paradise." No probation period. No waiting list. No tomorrow required. This man had no time left for self-improvement or spiritual lists. He had only today, and today was enough for Jesus. We deceive ourselves thinking we need more time to get ready for Christ's kingdom. But Jesus doesn't operate on our timeline of "when I'm ready." His mercy meets us in our present desperation, not our future perfection. The thief received paradise not because he earned it, but because Jesus promised it—today. What are you waiting for? Christ's forgiveness is offered now.

Day 5: Thy Kingdom Come Today

Reading: Matthew 6:9-13

Devotional:

When we pray "Thy kingdom come," we're not requesting a distant future event—we're inviting God's reign into our present reality. Jesus taught us to pray for today's bread, today's forgiveness, today's deliverance. His kingdom isn't merely a post-death destination; it's a present power transforming us now. Yet we resist. We prefer our coffee-shop lists of spiritual intentions over the actual work of surrender. We say "not today" to forgiveness, honesty, generosity, and change. But Christ the King doesn't wait. He's removing every barrier today—your pride, fear, control, and excuses. His resurrection declares that today, death is defeated; today, you are free. Will you enter His kingdom today, or keep it neatly packed away for tomorrow?

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I hope this note finds you well and encouraged in the Lord. St. Peter’s continues to be a place where God is at work through our preschool, school, various ministries, and the daily faithfulness of His people. I am grateful to serve the Lord with you in this place! As we continue to serve together, I want to update you on changes in our church office and ministry staff. As many of you know, Michelle Leahy has been serving as our “Interim Director of Operations,” providing support and coordination across many areas of congregational life. In the coming weeks, Michelle will be stepping into a new role, “Executive Director.” This means her work will shift from hands-on ministry support to more administrative leadership and oversight of the church office, properties, finances, and technology. This is an important step for us as a congregation as we continue to support our staff and serve our members. With this change, we want to ensure that daily ministry needs are met. After reviewing our current staffing and budget, we can make an adjustment that supports the ongoing ministry without increasing costs. To that end, Kami Jo Mogelvang will expand her role to serve as “Church Ministry Coordinator.” Many of you have already seen Kami Jo assisting Pastor McDowell in youth ministry two days each week. Under the new alignment, she will: Continue serving in youth ministry, and Help coordinate ministry efforts and volunteer connections with Pastor Nate and Pastor McDowell across the congregation. This will help us strengthen volunteer support and the many “connecting points” that help our church family care for one another. As Kami Jo transitions out of her receptionist duties, this change will open about 18 hours per week at the front desk, which we have posted. This staffing arrangement stays within our approved 2025 budget. I am thankful for Michelle, Kami Jo, our staff, and all our volunteers. I also appreciate the spirit of grace and partnership that marks our congregation. Please keep our staff and ministry leaders in your prayers as we move through these transitions. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for the privilege of serving Christ with you! In Christ, Pastor Danny Eggold St. Peter’s Lutheran Church & School
