5 Day Devo
Sermon by Pastor Danny Eggold
Day 1: Seeing with God's Eyes
Reading: Luke 16:19-31 (The Rich Man and Lazarus)
Devotional: Today's reading challenges us to see the world as God sees it. The rich man in the parable was blind to Lazarus' suffering, despite his proximity. How often do we overlook the needs right in front of us? Ask God to open your eyes to the "Lazarus" at your gate today. Who might God be calling you to notice and help? Reflect on how your own comfort or privilege might be blinding you to others' needs. Pray for a heart that sees and responds with compassion.
Day 2: The Danger of Wealth
Reading: Amos 6:1-7, 1 Timothy 6:6-10
Devotional: These passages warn about the dangers of wealth and comfort. Amos speaks to those "at ease in Zion," while Paul cautions against the love of money. Consider your own relationship with material possessions. How might your resources be used to serve others rather than just yourself? Ask God to reveal any areas where you've become complacent or self-focused due to comfort. Pray for contentment and generosity, seeking ways to use what you have for God's kingdom.
Day 3: Christ Opens Our Eyes
Reading: Luke 24:13-35 (The Road to Emmaus)
Devotional: Just as Jesus opened the eyes of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, He desires to open our eyes to His presence and work in the world. Reflect on times when you've failed to recognize Jesus in your daily life. How might He be revealing Himself to you through Scripture, circumstances, or other people? Ask the Holy Spirit to give you spiritual sight, helping you to see Christ in unexpected places and people. Pray for a burning heart that recognizes and responds to Jesus' presence.
Day 4: Breaking Bread, Breaking Barriers
Reading: Acts 2:42-47
Devotional: The church finds unity and purpose in Holy Communion, echoing Jesus' table fellowship that crossed social boundaries. How can sharing meals or communion deepen your connections with others, especially those different from you? Consider inviting someone unexpected to share a meal this week. Reflect on how Christ's Body and Blood unite us all as one family. Pray for opportunities to extend hospitality and break down walls that divide people in your community.
Day 5: Responding to Suffering
Reading: James 2:14-17, Matthew 25:31-46
Devotional: These passages remind us that faith is demonstrated through action, especially in response to others' suffering. Jesus identifies deeply with those in need, saying that whatever we do for "the least of these," we do for Him. Reflect on specific ways you can put your faith into action this week. Is there a local ministry or organization serving the poor that you could support? Ask God to give you His heart for those who are hurting. Pray for the courage and resources to respond tangibly to the needs around you, seeing Christ in those you serve.
