5 Day Devotional: A Hollow Tomb

Day 1: From Dust to Life

Reading: Genesis 3:19; Ezekiel 37:1-14

Devotional: "To dust you came, to dust you shall return." These words marked the beginning of Lent, reminding us of our mortality. Yet the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel reveals God's power to resurrect what is dead. Just as the prophet witnessed bones coming together, covered with flesh and filled with breath, we too experience transformation. Our journey from Ash Wednesday to Easter mirrors this movement from death to life. The ashes on our foreheads were not the final word. Resurrection is! Today, contemplate how He can revitalize you.

Day 2: Do Not Be Afraid

Reading: Matthew 28:1-10; Isaiah 41:10

Devotional: When the angel appeared at the tomb with the appearance of lightning, even hardened guards fainted. Yet to the grieving women, the angel's first words were, "Do not be afraid." The same divine strength that rolls away stones and conquers death is gentle enough to calm our trembling hearts. Fear is natural when we encounter the holy, but God consistently tells His people, "Do not be afraid." The resurrection wasn't meant to terrify but to liberate. Whatever fear grips you today, the fear of death, failure, or the unknown, hear the angel's words afresh.

Day 3: He Is Not Here

Reading: Luke 24:1-12; John 11:25-26

Devotional: "He is not here, for He is risen." Five words that changed everything. An empty tomb means a full future. If Jesus had remained in that grave, our faith would be futile and our hope would end at death. But the hollow tomb declares that this world is temporary and eternity is real. When grief overwhelms you, when pain seems endless, when violence surrounds you, remember the empty tomb. This life, with all its suffering, is not the end. The same power that raised Jesus will raise you. Today's struggles are real, but they are not final. Consider what burden feels permanent in your life right now. How does the promise of resurrection reframe that struggle?

Day 4: Greetings!

Reading: John 20:11-18; Hebrews 4:14-16

Devotional: Imagine the Savior of the universe greeting His disciples with such warmth: "Greetings!" Not with condemnation for their abandonment, not with distance befitting His majesty, but with the joy of a brother reunited with beloved family. This same Jesus meets you today! But not as a distant deity, as an intimate friend. When you approach His table in communion, He welcomes you with open arms. The Creator who spoke galaxies into existence knows your name and delights in your presence. He doesn't merely tolerate your prayers; He eagerly listens. Fully God and fully man, Jesus bridges the infinite gap between heaven and earth. How does knowing Christ welcomes you joyfully change your approach to prayer and worship?

Day 5: The Solid Cross

Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:12-28; Colossians 2:13-15

Devotional: Everything in this world is temporary: chocolate bunnies, Easter baskets, even our earthly bodies. But the cross is solid, unchanging, eternal. No hammer of human effort can break the barrier of death; only Christ's sacrifice could roll away that stone. While worldly pleasures are hollow and fleeting, the resurrection offers substance that satisfies forever. The tomb's hollowness revealed the cross's solidity. Death was defeated, sin was conquered, and eternal life became reality. Remember, we are now in the Easter season! It is not just one day of celebration to so quickly return to ordinary life. Remember what endures. The resurrection isn't just a historical event we celebrate annually; it's the foundation of daily hope. Let that hope fill you with peace today!
