Principal Chris Brune Returns a Call

March 18, 2025

Members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and School and Community,

Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Over the past several weeks, I have been prayerfully discerning God’s will after receiving the call to serve as the Superintendent of Schools and District Education Executive for the Lutheran schools of Ohio. This has been an exceptionally difficult decision, as I see great need and opportunity for ministry in both roles. The prospect of serving Lutheran education on a broader scale was both humbling and compelling, yet so too is the deep sense of purpose and joy I feel in my current role.

After much prayer, reflection, and conversations with trusted colleagues, family, and members of our school and church community, I have reached the decision to return this call to the Ohio District and remain in my role as principal at St. Peter’s. This has not been an easy conclusion to reach, yet through this process, God has aligned my steps and made things clear. I feel a renewed conviction to continue leading our school, strengthening our one St. Peters ministry, and walking alongside each of you in the all important work we do together.

As we move forward, I do so with gratitude for this incredible community and confidence that God will continue to guide our path. There is much to be done, and I am eager to continue this journey alongside you, trusting in God’s provision and grace. As Galatians 6:9 encourages us, “Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” May we remain steadfast in our calling and service, knowing that God is faithful and that the work we do together has a lasting, kingdom impact.

Thank you for your partnership, your trust, and your unwavering dedication to Lutheran education. It is truly a privilege to serve as your principal, and I look forward to all that God has in store for our one St. Peter's ministry.

May God bless and sustain us as we remain faithful in His service.

Together in Christ,

Chris Brune

St. Peter's Congregation,

I ask for your diligent prayers as I have received a call to serve another corner of God’s kingdom. Please read my letter attached below. As I contemplate this Call, I seek the Lord's will and know that it is only through His good and gracious will that we will find what His plan is. As my letter states, I welcome and encourage any conversations over the next few weeks. It is my opinion, only through these conversations and many other means, I will find His will.

My door is always open!

Together in Christ,

Chris Brune

I want to share a story, actually several stories. I remember when I was young in Tulsa, Oklahoma and in Fredericktown, Missouri, of going up to the altar rail with my parents and receiving a blessing from my pastor. I remember sticking my head in between the posts on the altar rail and the pastor giving me a blessing. I don't exactly remember the words, but I knew it was important and I wanted that blessing. I remember in confirmation learning about what the pastor was actually saying, what those words actually meant. To understand what God was saying in his scriptures and growing in it. Overall, just being absolutely amazed at what my pastors, Pastor Sean and Pastor Beering were teaching me and knowing God better and just the joyfulness of it. And I remember Lyndi going through confirmation, adult confirmation, with Pastor Schueler in Rosenberg, Texas, and then seeing from her eyes what it meant to be Lutheran, to understand the faith. I had grown up in the Lutheran church, so it was all ordinary for me, but for her it was extraordinary to know and to understand and have that time with a pastor. And I'm so thankful for the pastors in my life and all of the other church workers that have been a part of my life who have helped me to understand who God is. I mentioned in this weekend’s sermon that there's an initiative, a program through the LCMS called Set Apart to Serve. It points out that we have a lack of pastors, teachers, and other church workers. Set Apart to Serve reminds us that the Lord asks us to pray for laborers for the harvest, and I encourage you to pray for laborers for the harvest. To pray for those that teach us who God is and to help us to understand how much we need him. If you happen to know some young people considering church work or being pastors, pray for them, encourage them. God has gifted them to us to answer our questions. Pray fervently that the Lord would send workers into his harvest so that we know him. Keep that in your prayers. I encourage you to look for people who would be good to take God's calling into his church. May the Lord provide workers for His harvest that we may know God and how richly He blesses us. Amen.
