A Note from Pastor Nate: Sharing Easter Joy through Lutheran Senior Care Ministry
One of the great joys of serving the Church is seeing how God connects generations in caring for one another. This Easter season, our students at St. Peter’s Day School and Preschool helped share that love in a very special way.
As a member of the board for Lutheran Senior Care Ministry, I had the opportunity to invite our students to create Easter cards that will be delivered to seniors throughout the Fort Wayne area. Watching our children thoughtfully color and decorate these cards was a wonderful reminder that sharing Christ’s love doesn’t depend on age, only a willing heart. (And a special thank you to our teachers and staff who helped make sure it happened.)
The cards will be distributed by chaplains serving through Lutheran Senior Care Ministry, a ministry that brings Word and Worship to individuals in nursing homes, assisted living centers, and adult day services across our Fort Wayne community. With the help of 18 Lutheran chaplains—both active and retired pastors and deaconesses—this ministry serves more than 30 facilities, offering spiritual care not only to residents but also to the employees who faithfully care for them each day. Volunteers also assist in bringing residents to worship and helping them remain connected to the life-giving promises of God’s Word.
This Easter, as these cards are handed out during visits and worship services, they will carry with them the bright colors, creativity, and kindness of our youngest members. For many seniors who may not receive much mail or have regular visitors, even a simple card can be a powerful reminder that they are remembered, valued, and loved.
It’s a beautiful picture of the Church at work. Our St. Peter's children sharing joy with those who have walked the faith for many years. They aren't even aware of the impact they will have. Isn't that so wonderful how God works through opportunities in our lives? In Christ, we care for one another across generations, and together we proclaim the hope of the resurrection.
Thank you to our students and teachers for helping share the message of Easter in such a thoughtful way.
