Use this 5-Day Devo this week

Rewatch the coordinating sermon clip for this devotion on The Hub under Worship.

Day 1: God's Messengers Reading: Psalm 91:9-16 Devotional: Angels serve as God's messengers, protecting and guiding us. Yet their ultimate purpose is to direct our attention to God Himself. As you read about God's promise of protection, reflect on how He has guarded you in your life. Have you ever sensed divine intervention? Remember, while angels are fascinating, our focus should remain on the One who sends them. Today, thank God for His care, manifested through both seen and unseen means.

Day 2: The Power of God's Word Reading: Ephesians 6:10-18 Devotional: We are armed with the "sword of the Spirit," which is God's Word. This powerful weapon equips us for spiritual battles and guides us in truth. Consider how Scripture has shaped your life and faith. Are there areas where you need to apply God's Word more diligently? Commit to spending more time in Scripture, the Holy Spirit works through the word to transform your mind and heart. Remember, this is a gift far greater than any angelic weapon.

Day 3: Robed in Righteousness Reading: Isaiah 61:10-11 Devotional: Through Christ, we are clothed in righteousness far more glorious than any angelic garment. This "robe" represents our justified status before God, made possible by Jesus' sacrifice. Reflect on the profound implications of being covered by Christ's righteousness. How does this truth impact your daily life and interactions with others? Let this assurance of God's love and His acceptance empower you to live boldly for Him.

Day 4: Focusing on Salvation Reading: Luke 10:17-20 Devotional: Jesus reminds us to rejoice not in spiritual powers, but in our salvation. Our greatest joy should be that our names are written in heaven. Take time to contemplate the wonder of your salvation. How has it changed your life? Are you living in light and joy of this incredible gift? Today, let gratitude for your redemption overflow, influencing how you treat others and approach challenges.

Day 5: Messengers of Hope Reading: Matthew 28:16-20 Devotional: As believers, we too are called to be messengers - not of judgment, but of hope and salvation. We carry the greatest news: Christ's victory over sin and death. Reflect on opportunities you have to share this message. How can you be a beacon of hope in your community? Remember, you have "a whole host of heaven" supporting you. Ask God for courage and wisdom to faithfully represent Him in word and deed.

I want to share a story, actually several stories. I remember when I was young in Tulsa, Oklahoma and in Fredericktown, Missouri, of going up to the altar rail with my parents and receiving a blessing from my pastor. I remember sticking my head in between the posts on the altar rail and the pastor giving me a blessing. I don't exactly remember the words, but I knew it was important and I wanted that blessing. I remember in confirmation learning about what the pastor was actually saying, what those words actually meant. To understand what God was saying in his scriptures and growing in it. Overall, just being absolutely amazed at what my pastors, Pastor Sean and Pastor Beering were teaching me and knowing God better and just the joyfulness of it. And I remember Lyndi going through confirmation, adult confirmation, with Pastor Schueler in Rosenberg, Texas, and then seeing from her eyes what it meant to be Lutheran, to understand the faith. I had grown up in the Lutheran church, so it was all ordinary for me, but for her it was extraordinary to know and to understand and have that time with a pastor. And I'm so thankful for the pastors in my life and all of the other church workers that have been a part of my life who have helped me to understand who God is. I mentioned in this weekend’s sermon that there's an initiative, a program through the LCMS called Set Apart to Serve. It points out that we have a lack of pastors, teachers, and other church workers. Set Apart to Serve reminds us that the Lord asks us to pray for laborers for the harvest, and I encourage you to pray for laborers for the harvest. To pray for those that teach us who God is and to help us to understand how much we need him. If you happen to know some young people considering church work or being pastors, pray for them, encourage them. God has gifted them to us to answer our questions. Pray fervently that the Lord would send workers into his harvest so that we know him. Keep that in your prayers. I encourage you to look for people who would be good to take God's calling into his church. May the Lord provide workers for His harvest that we may know God and how richly He blesses us. Amen.
